This is a letter of recommendation (Leumundszeugnis) written for Alois Betz in Enkering in March (I believe) of 1855. It is signed by several individuals. This is one of the documents which he had to obtain from local officials attesting to his good character, education, parentage, trade status, etc. prior to receiving a pass to emigrate to the U.S. A pretty complete transcription and rough translation follow the links.
