Alois Betz’s official pass to leave Bavaria was issued on April 23rd 1855 in Kipfenberg by the regional court. The upper part of the sheet contains a document number to the left, and on the right the tax and stamp fees denominated in florins. Below that is the Bavarian seal. To the left of the seal is a 3 Kreutzer revenue stamp. Below the seal are the words “Reisepass in das Ausland” or roughly, “pass to leave the country.” In a box on the left are Alois’ particulars, which largely agree with the similar feature on Document #5, the military discharge. Below Alois’ signature is a note commanding the bearer of the visa to report in at Bavarian embassies when possible.
Finally, the center text is only partially transcribed, but enough has been done to show that he had permission to travel from Bremen, a typical port of departure, to Baltimore. Transcription follows the images.
