This is a local permit to marry, issued to Franz Joseph Neracher and Katherina Fischer by the town council of Wettingen, county Baden, in the Swiss Canton of Aargau, August 24th of 1851. The place and year of birth for Franz Joseph are given as Wettingen, 1818. The reason for our possession of this document is the marriage of Alois and Rosina’s second son, Alois Louis Betz, to Catherine Neracher. Catherine’s father was Adolph Neracher, born 1844 in Germany according to the 1910 census. The connection between Adolph and Franz Joseph is unclear, but at least we have a pretty good idea that Franz emigrated to the U.S., lived in Cuyahoga county, and is buried in St. John Cemetery, the same cemetery where we believe Alois and Rosina were interred.
