This photo shows a happy Edward R. and Lena Betz posing with their first child, Edward M. Betz. The photo is undated but since Edward M. was born in June of 1901 we can confidently date it to the late summer/early fall of that year. Seated in front left is “Aunt Kate Schaefer.” This is Catherine Schafer (nee Keller), Rosina’s daughter and Edward’s step-sister. The younger Schaefer children are probably her grandchildren. Nothing is known of Katie Lauber, seated front row far right, other than that she is the “niece of Fr. Benedict.” The dog in the background is not named. Note that the setting is stated to be Marion Street, Cleveland, which is one of the reasons for attributing the 1887 group photo to that location, since the setting seems similar.
