This photo of a grinning Edward M. Betz was taken in 1906 or 1907, at the age of five or six years. Two different addresses are given on the back because sometime between 1900 and 1912 “Hulda Street” became “Hampden Avenue.” The address was off of Superior Ave (U.S. 6) on the far side of Doan Brook, an area that was all farmland in the late 1800’s but was built out rapidly in the first part of the 20th century. Hampden Avenue is still in existence today. Note “Hulda Court” off of E. 99th just north of Hampden.
