Kuchen is really just German for “cake.” The first variation seems to build off of the recipe for bread recorded earlier in the book. The second begins from scratch.

Dumplings 2 cups flour piece a butter 2 teaspoons baking powder rub well together and add milk to make a soft dough. Kuchen To the bread dough add - 1/2 cup of sugar 1 egg 1/2 cup of latl-- + butter. Kuchen 1 1/2 pt of Milk boiled then let it cool off add flour yeast sugar eggs + shortening and make it stiff at night. Muffins 1 egg 1/2 cup of Sugar 1 large tablespoon of butter 1 cup of white flour 2 " " graham flour 2 teaspoon of baking powder a little salt enough Milk to make them like cake drop in Muffin pans
